In which I drop in every 6 months and post something random

My 12 year old son and I were talking...and it was funny.

He says "You know that band Black Santana?"

"You mean Black Sabbath?"

"No, Black Santana."

"There isn't a band called Black Santana. There's a band called Black Sabbath, who Ozzy Osbourne used to sing for. You know Ozzy Osbourne, right? He sings that song 'Crazy Train' that's on Guitar Hero. And I guess he's done some reunion stuff with Black Sabbath over the years, but mostly he established himself as a solo artist. And then there's Santana. Not Black Santana. Just Santana. He's been around for like 40 years, playing guitar, and recording music. You know that song you like called 'Into The Night'? They play that on the radio, right? That's Santana, only he doesn't sing the lead vocals. I think the guy singing is the singer from Nickelback, but I don't listen to them regularly, so I'm not certain."

*uncomfortable silence*

*more silence*

Then he rolls his eyes and says "The amount of stuff you know about music is EMBARASSING."

So in case you've been hiding under a rock....

San Diego is on fire!

My Mom's neighborhood isn't currently being threatened, but neighboring communities are burning down...and I have many friends who are evacuated...texting me from a cot they've been sleeping on at my old high school...or elsewhere. A friend of my Mom's is fairly certain that they don't have a home to go back to. My Mom is slow to react to emergencies, so I had to talk her through packing a bag yesterday, just in case! She lives on a canyon, so if a fire were to come through that canyon, well...yeah. Please pray for my hometown!

*knock knock* Is this thing on???

Do I still have LiveJournal friends? Or have I neglected you so badly, as to never be forgiven?

-- I'm in a weird place, emotionally. I feel like I'm holding myself back from my true potential, because of some my own thoughts about myself. It's like I'm holding my hand over my shining light so not many will see it. Well, recognizing it is the first step, right?

-- I took the kids to see The Lion King in Memphis. It was GLORIOUS AMAZING SPECTACULAR & A COMPLETELY SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE. Can you tell I liked it? Please go see it when given the opportunity!

-- Set foot in 5 states this weekend!

-- I've nearly grown all of my hair dye out. Took forever, and I look awful, but I'm trying to avoid the chemicals. I'm wondering what color my hair would be if I used henna. I wish it would lighten it, as I have dark brown hair. I don't think it does. Not true henna anyway.

-- I never tire of reading about different poetic forms.

-- I fall in love with strangers when they walk down the street. Young & old. I never want them to keep walking.

-- If anyone is interested in a new friend, my fabulous high school friend, [info]walkerchick has joined LJ!!! I lovelovelove her, she's so amazing that you'll want to know her like I do! I promise!

Random Memories

Laying on the floor of Tower Records listening to hours of music on their huge headphones until my Dad came back to pick me up, fending off a would-be attacker while getting gas on Bobby Brown Blvd. (ha!) in Atlanta, The recorded message that they call you with during a hurricane - "your life is in danger" like you can do anything about it if you're still on the phone with them, rosy ice cream filled cheeks, the pure joy of knowing that I've done something right.

What are one or more random memories that you have today?

Oh LiveJournal, How I've neglected you!!!

Hair drama!

My son starts 6th grade this week and today we went to the orientation where there seemed to be massive amounts of girls. All the way home he said "I'm cutting my hair tomorrow", feeling his head a little more, and saying "I'm not cutting it. I'll let it grow more.". Cutting, not cutting, cutting! We're currently on not cutting, again! I made a little joke about a buzz cut and he welled up with tears and went to his room!

In other news, my daughter announced that she wants a costume of a Dorito.

Africa

I want to go to Africa. I don't even have a clear reason why. Something deep inside me wants to see Africa. My heart is being pulled there. It's something I've felt for a long, long time.
